forgotten words

In 1998 I was reading a book, exactly which book I can not recollect, and as I read I kept a list of all the words I enjoyed reading. Today, I found that list crammed into a book and thought it interesting enough to share. I wish I knew what the book was; the collection of words is quite unique.

deeply spiritual firmly grounded

As of late I’ve been thinking about what it means to lead a spiritual life that infuses your everyday actions. What kind of work can you do under that premiss? How can you learn to control yourself in such a way as to never do harm to another?

I’ve also been reading about science’s efforts to create religious experiences. Using technology, there’s quite a body of evidence that suggests we can assist in creating transendental states.

Is your Brain on God

Creating Out of Body Experiences

Spend more time focusing on the concrete practice of living. Integrate...

It’s easier to live in fear and chronically escape. Put just a little bit of trust in the universe. It always comes with just that little leap of faith.

I accidently ended up having lunch the other day with Dj Kooki without realizing who he was until about half way through the meal. I asked him how he got started being a DJ. How he made his leap of faith? He told me and he also told me how crazy everyone thought he was when he did it.

Strangely enough our paths had crossed once before at a Throb (record store) when Zach (resident music geek) had given him my record. I’d forgotten him completely. As I left, he reminded me our meeting wasn’t chance and that things always happen for a reason. I agreed and left.

Dreams
I’m walking along a path that’s craggy and desert like. There’s a priestess in front of me but I can’t see her face. I am kinda chasing her. She’s telling me the path my life will take and the trials I will face. She says, “The way will be rocky, but you will get there. There are tests along the way.” Suddenly we are in field of dead red birds. I’m over come by sadness. I check each one to see if it’s actually gone and find a black bag. Looking inside I find one living baby bird. I take him out and begin feeding him the way mother birds do - chewing worms and feeding him. I’m over come by compassion and wonder why or who could do this to such a lovely creature. The sage reappears. She said I just passed the first test.

I had a dream the other day that I was playing poker and was dealt a full flush minus one card. The queen of clubs was missing and I was waiting for her to come as the cards turned. She did and I had it. A Royal flush from 10 to Ace.

drawing stories

1. The magic space ship. By this craft, visitors to and from the world of Oolmuni arrive and depart Earth. Display it in visible spot if you wish to visit another world. It's magic will help bring unexpected adventure into your life.

2.Big Bully
Big Bully has a tendency to knock things around with his head. In fact, he finds it fun. He's good to keep around in case something gets in the way. He comes on this trip in search of something to knock over that bounces up again.

3.The Druid
Druids are magical creatures that gain wisdom through constant study and devotion to their art. They are disciplined and sensitive to nature. The bring much magic to those who care for them.

4. Swinging Organots
This Organot is temporarily in the form of a rabbit. He loves to swing from clouds. Organots are highly creative and playful. If you take him swinging, he'll like it very mich.

5. The Heart Eater.
This is quite an evil monster you have accidently found. Meet the Heart Eater. He shatters hearts. However, he can only destroy false love based in desire, selfishness and possession. He does the good service of cracking hearts wide open so they can feel true love.

6. The Bird of Power.
From this bird, an evil monster known as the Heart Eater draws his power. Once he was majestic and now his spine crooks. Notice though he's not chained to this evil monster. If only he could realize he was free, he would return to his real form. It's his mind he allows to be caged. Monsters are kind enough to reveal your soul to you. Pain can set you free if you understand it's true source.

7. The Sleeping Queen
Perhaps you have heard the story of the sleeping queens who dream the world. They slumber united in mystery with all time and space. With closed eyes they see the world truly as it is, as it has been, and as it will always be. The queens travel together bringing forth entire galaxies. Sounds beyond hearing radiate from their sealed lips. These melodies, harmonies and phrases form our lives and guide our souls. For those who listen to stones, skies and stars, they hear softly, in the distance, the Sleeping Queens' voices united in song.

8.The Lost Soul
This soul is lost, confused and afraid. It doesn't know where to go. Perhaps you can befriend and assist it along its way.

9.Totem Bird
Totem Bird has had a pretty hard go of it since last summer. He's been stuck under a raining cloud. He's on a trip to get some sun and forget his worries.

Tropism: Commonwealth vs. Joshua Davis

I'm going to kick this blog post off by straight up reblogging part of Marius Watz's Generator.x post about this show to give the details. Hats of to Marius for a really great post: Tropism: Commonwealth vs. Joshua Davis

Currently on display at the Espeis gallery in Williamsburg, Tropism is a collaboration between New York product design studio Commonwealth and generative artist Joshua Davis. Inspired by the endless variations of form in the plant world, they have worked together to create a series of computer-designed vases imprinted with generative graphics.

I went down to the show today to check out the work and was impressed by not only the art itself but by the fact that a gallery space was successfully presenting and selling digital art objects. The work itself reminded me of Marius' own 3d prints created earlier this year and also of several similar pieces that have used this same technology combine with ceramic to create sculpture digitally.

3d printing, laser cuts, limited prints and other means of rendering files are becoming increasingly popular solutions to the dilemma new technology artists face when selling work to collectors.

Curious about the Commonwealth vs. Joshua Davis show I asked some questions to the gallery curators and was excited to discover that the gallery itself is the gallery/presentation space of Commonwealth's own work space. Hopefully, the great success of this inspired show will encourage other galleries to support and present similar work. As for now though it's pathfinders like the Espeis space that are brave enough to lay claim to the new genre in art of digital art object.
